HOT STORIES THIS MONTH
Simon Cowell to make a comeback
After months of rumours it has been confirmed that Simon Cowell will be returning to his ITV show, The X Factor, as early as next year.
Speculation has been surrounding the shows judging line up ever since current head judge Gary Barlow announced his departure from the show live on TV. It is thought that Cheryl Cole and possibly Rita Ora may be making a comeback as well.
Cowell has said: “I will return at some point. I still miss that. I mean, that show is my baby.”
Not only is the big boss returning, The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent will be sticking around for the next three years, airing until at least 2016 after signing a deal rumoured to be worth £150m.
ITV Director of Television, Peter Fincham has said: “Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor are two of the most popular and most talked about shows on TV. They set the gold standard for entertainment production.”
Ronaldo launched new underwear range
The start of November witnessed the release of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut underwear line ‘CR7.’ Carried out in true Ronaldo fashion, his campaign was all about him! The launch in Madrid showcased a 19 metre tall image from his range hanging from the landmark building Palacio de Cibeles. (image to the right)
CR7 is the footballer’s first venture into fashion designing. From his tweets on the day of the launch it is clear to see he is excited about this new project. Cristiano tweeted: “Proud to see this image from the #CR7underwear campaign displayed in one of Madrid’s most famous landmarks today.”
Created in cooperation with designer Richard Chai, Ronaldo was heavily involved in the development of the collection. Although released in Spain, the full range is available to buy in the UK online at www.cr7underwear.com.
Vinnie Jones has revealed he is being treated for a form of skin cancer.
Shockingly, his wife Tanya is also fighting the disease. The footballer turned actor, 48, has announced that he is battling the skin cancer known as Melanoma. This is a dangerous strain which is thought to kill more than 2000 people per year in the UK.
Over the past 25 years, rates of Melanoma in the UK have risen faster than any other types of common cancer. Despite this, over 80% of men and 90% of women survive past the five-year danger zone following treatment.
The exact cause of this cancer is unknown, but most cases are linked to UV light. People with a pale skin complexion or with the disease in their family are most at risk for getting Melanoma.
There are precautions you can take to protect yourself such as always using sun protection and regularly checking moles or skin abnormalities for changes or any unusual symptoms. These may be a bleeding mole or a raised lump under the skin.
Former Wales International Vinnie Jones, first noticed a lump beneath his right eye in February this year. In an interview with The Sun, he revealed this was his ‘toughest opponent yet.’
“Cancer is a horrible word to hear. I’ve faced the biggest and ugliest lads on the football field and been in some nasty brawls. But this is my scariest opponent yet. When the doctor said I had skin cancer, the first thing I though was, “How long have I got?” He said.
After undergoing surgery to remove the first lump, about two months later a growth returned. This has now been removed in a second operation.
His wife, Tanya, 47 has also had a series of operations to remove several cancerous growths. It is thought that her skin cancer could be a side effect of treatment she received after a heart operation 26 years ago.
The couple is continuing to fight the disease and hope to recover soon.
England Rugby stars joined the Movember campaign
You may have been bumping into men with plenty of facial hair and moustaches this winter. Remember it’s all for a good cause. Many faces have taken part in the Movember campaign and supported the ‘mo’ this year, including the England rugby team.
Movember is a yearly event where men put down the razor to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Each year more and more famous faces are taking part in the campaign to reach November’s goal to ‘change the face of men’s health’. 2013 being no exception we scouted out the England rugby team and took a look at their Movember efforts.
Dylan Hartley and Ben Foden were amongst the rugby players who supported the campaign, raising over £9,000 between them and £30,000 as part of the Front Mo Union team.
Dylan says his main motivation to support the campaign was“to contribute to the great work Movember already do all while having some hairy faced fun!” Whilst Ben wanted “to change the face of men’s health.”
They aren’t the only members of the rugby team who took part, Owen Farrell, Toby Flood, Lee Dickson and Alex Corbisiero have all braved the no razor rule.
Miley Cyrus - Can she stop?
Miley Cyrus, Queen of all things ‘twerk’, has recently been hitting the headlines. Whether she’s riding a wrecking ball, gyrating with a foam finger or stepping out in next to nothing, right now the world can’t get enough of the former Disney star.
Not only was she was named no.1 on the Top 10 Richest Teens in Hollywood, with $120 million in the bank, she also topped Maxim’s Top 100 list earlier this year of sexiest celebrities.
However, after recently confirming she was indeed smoking marijuana live on stage at the EMAs in Amsterdam, critics are questioning how long it will be before this child-star burns out.
Irish singer Sinead O’Connor recently wrote an open letter to the 20-year-old, stating: “Women are to be valued for so much more than their sexuality. We aren’t merely objects of desire. I would be encouraging you to send healthier messages to your peers.”
Miley responded by highlighting O’Connor’s past mental health issues – an action which prompted a further two open letters from Sinead.
Elton John also recently described the singer as a “meltdown waiting to happen” during an interview, raising the question that if her media-seeking actions are actually a cry for help.
After Miley’s recent appearance on The X Factor, the rumour mill has been on overdrive.
Sources have said bosses asked her to rein in her antics for her recent performance for the family-friendly audience. The stage show, described as tame by some, has caused more controversy, but at the other end of the spectrum.
“Damned if you do damned if you don’t”, was the cryptic message posted on the singer’s Twitter after her performance. It’s not often Miley responds to negativity, but was unhappy with the responses to her PG rated performance.
Fans and critics alike will be looking on to see how Miley will act next in order to gain maximum media attention.
